Dragutin Kušlan Primary School

Analysing the macro and micro location with respect to the city planning conditions and the functional specifics of a primary school building yielded a solution with a layout consisting of a simple enclosed quadratic form, with a minimal number of floors, and designing the roof as a fifth façade.

In place of external spaces missing on the site, we created a two-story enclosed central space transparent from the east and west, as well as an external space on the upper floor – an introverted terrace for rest and relaxation which can also be used for outdoor classes. The roof and cross-section geometry enabled natural light to penetrate the whole depth of the layout.
